Beginning Archive Research

It can be overwhelming to approach an archive, digital or otherwise, for any kind of research.  Below are our beginner tips and tricks to operating not just our archive, but any archive you may come into contact with.  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions regarding beginning research in our materials.

One of the most important aspects of using archive materials is the appropriate citation.  Please use the below format when citing our pieces.

"Item name." (Year if available). Collection name. LCC Archive, accessed on (insert date).

1. Come into the archive with an idea of what you are searching for: archive research is easiest with a goal in mind!
2. Please do not take photos of our physical objects without permission from the archivists, to protect our more delicate objects from camera flashes.
3. Come willing to adjust your search parameters.  Although we do our best to arrange our collections as accessibly as possible, their arrangement may be different from how you would search: don't be afraid to ask questions!
